Substituting healthy plant proteins for red meat lowers risk for heart disease

Increasingly, we are seeing articles published about the benefit of plant based diets. Seems since the beginning of 2019 a new major study is published every day – all with the same mantra that plant based diets have huge benefits.

Below is publication just released today with conclusion that substituting healthy plant proteins for red meat lowers risk of heart disease. I would add to that statement – reducing the consumption of animal based foods (along with processed foods) lowers the risk of chronic illness in general. We now know this for a fact.

The research article, from Harvard’s School of Public Health, makes a good point that just eliminating red meat and substituting unhealthful options is not beneficial.  Substituting healthful plant proteins for red meat is beneficial for lowering cardiovascular risk.  Watch out for “plant based junk foods” that are starting to fill the shelves in markets; things like “veggie sticks” and foods with high sugar and salt and fat content marketed under the guise of “plant based.”
