I was encouraged to see a news clip on the national news this week warning that poor diet has surpassed tobacco as the number one cause of death in the U.S. Wow, it’s been a long time coming and while we still aren’t there, we are getting closer. The very short video below provides a condensed and eye opening message to the general population that heart disease, type II diabetes and stroke are all diet related.
While I don’t agree (and neither does the past 20 years of solid research) that we should limit our dietary intake of red meat and bacon to once or twice a week that a teaspoon of salt a day if OK (you will never hear that from me) I am heartened to know that we are finally getting to the point where new research openly states the benefits of eliminating animal products and adding more plant based nutrition to our diet. For now I’ll take this small step forward advancing the benefits of dietary change.
