Welcome to the latest edition of “Longevity Tips”!
Drawing on 12 years of travel, observational research, and 20 immersive trips to authentic long-living villages, I share one actionable step towards a longer, healthier life each month – based upon proven truths as opposed to trends, “hacks” or BS.
These small steps, consistently applied, lead to significant long-term benefits.
This month’s edition also announces the opportunity to take an even bigger step by immersing yourself in the authentic cuisine, culture, and lifestyle of longevity as it’s still beautifully lived in the south of Italy.
Although the spring excursions are filled and closed, two amazing harvest excursions are being offered in the fall of this year. The details are here with more at the end of this newsletter. This is for your eyes only. The public announcement will go out at the end of this week.
But first, let me begin with the very essence of a healthy lifestyle that can be distilled into something surprisingly simple.
What if I told you there’s a “pill” that doesn’t cost a cent and yet if taken, will give you the following results, would you take it?
✔️Improved cardiovascular health by reducing the risk of heart disease,
✔️Lowers blood pressure,
✔️Burns calories,
✔️Increases bone density,
✔️Improves balance and coordination,
✔️Lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes,
✔️Regulates sleep,
✔️Increases energy levels,
✔️Reduces stress,
✔️Improves digestion,
If you guessed the “pill” is walking…. you are correct.
Even short regular walks will contribute significantly to your overall health and well-being. That’s not simply my opinion but researched backed.
The hardest part (but you can make it the easiest part) of taking this pill is putting on a pair of walking shoes and getting out the door several times a week for even 10 minutes a day.
One of the “secrets” of longevity is the amount of walking that longest living populations do each day. It’s naturally built into their daily lives.
We, living in a heavily industrialized environment, have to make a little effort to build it into our daily lives. It does require a change of mindset in the beginning.
I’ll share a recent scenario about how mindset is sometimes everything when looking for solutions to health concerns.
A work associate, probably 50 pounds overweight, recently asked me what he should do to lose weight. I suggested that he begin walking 10 minutes a day on a consistent basis.
His response was almost indignant, firing back the question of “what will a 10-minute walk do? – I need to lose weight.”
My response to him was this, if you are looking for a quick fix to lose 50 pounds you won’t be happy.
But, if you are looking for a sustainable way to gain back your health (list above) and consistently lose weight, it’s a beginning. In other words, a change in your mindset will make a huge difference. It’s sometimes all about how you think about things.
I’ll cover more about how to change your mindset when my cohort workshop is available this summer.
For now, just simply putting on your walking shoes and enjoying consistent walks holds incredible potential to improve your health and life in countless ways – and it doesn’t cost a cent.
For those ready for an immersive experience of the lifestyle of longevity at harvest time in the south of Italy, an intimate, 12-person journey awaits, where you’ll savor the beauty, culture, lifestyle, olive oil production and more.
Here’s some of what to expect…exploring everything from the stunning Tyrrhenian coastline to a personal invitation to an organic olive farm and cooking lessons, to the bustling streets of Reggio Calabria and more, you will experience the true taste and lifestyle of long living populations in Italy.
This is an opportunity for a real travel experience that will profoundly reshape you.
You will get out in the countryside where life moves more slowly,
Where food is prepared just minutes from when picked from the garden,
When you take a walk down an uncrowded street in a small village and you feel strangely at home,
When you meet other local people going about their day and you see another side of life as it’s been lived for centuries
And when your senses are saturated by stunningly beautiful landscape you could not
have imagined…
This is real travel and when your own personal journey begins, uncovering parts of yourself you never knew existed.
You leave with the most valuable souvenir of all – new perceptions of a life well lived and newly made friends you will want to stay in touch with.
I know this may sound like a tall order to fill but I have experienced it with different groups
over and over again.
But, don’t believe me, you can read what others are saying
on my website here. Just scroll down a touch to see them.
Note: There’s a good chance the trip will fill quickly due to the small group size. Please let me know with reply to this message if you are considering joining us.
Take good care of yourself. Keep walking (or start walking) and let me know if you are ready for the experience of a lifetime in Italy this coming fall!
See you again next month!
