This Isn’t the Italy of Summer Postcards

I’ve just returned from Southern Italy, and with the last of the tourists gone, I witnessed something far richer than any gelato or ancient ruins.

I saw a life fully kicked into gear—a vibrant, active rhythm where diet and lifestyle aren’t forced choices, but a simple, deep flow with the seasons.

This isn’t the Italy of summer postcards; this is the real, undiluted current of multi-generational life.

  • The grape harvest was producing the sweet, slightly tangy aroma of grape must (the freshly crushed juice, skins, and seeds) filling the air around wineries and wafting into towns situated near the vineyards.
  • Everywhere you go, there’s the heavy, rich smell of fresh chestnuts roasting—in homes as a special treat, and for sale in small brown bags on street corners.
  • And when the first reliable autumn rains happen, the rich smell of wet earth and decaying leaves has encouraged the growth of wild mushrooms adding a unique earthy smell to the country air.
  • The olive harvest has just begun and the air around the frantoi (oil mills) takes on the pungent, grassy, and peppery smell of freshly crushed olives. This is the scent of the olio nuovo (new extra virgin olive.)

If you would like to be instantly transported to the farm and witness the magic of olio nuovo being pressed I can give you an inside look at how extra virgin olive oil is being produced right now.

The photos and video clips were either taken by me on my visit to Deliba farm, (more like a forest,) or the Deliba family themselves just a couple of days ago.

This olio nuovo (new oil) is the freshest, most nutrient-dense EVOO you can get. Many of you are already on the waitlist to have it shipped next month—just in time to enjoy all winter and spring.

If you want to enjoy the taste and nutritional benefits of this year’s olive harvest, don’t miss out. More details are available here!

Finally, only two places remain for our spring “Authentic Italy” excursion to sun-drenched Calabria.

Come and immerse yourself in the lifestyle of longevity: you’ll be a guest for a day at the Deliba farm for hands-on cultural and cooking experiences, explore ancient cities, and enjoy the full southern Italian experience—all from your amazing four-star accommodations right by the sea. All details are here.

That’s it for Now!
