Small Movements for Better Health: Easy Ways to Improve Your Daily Routine
Welcome to the latest edition of “Longevity Tips”
Daily Movements for Better Health the monthly newsletter dedicated to enhancing your well-being and helping you “live longer better.”
You might think exercise (I’ll call it movement) is important for weight loss, weight management, cardio or to burn calories. And of course you would be correct.
But over the past few decades, good science has shown us that small movements for better health are only a small part of how the body benefits from them.
When you exercise regularly, even by walking each day, your body activates a personal pharmacy of powerful hormones and chemicals that not only keeps your body functioning properly but helps ward off disease.Powerful hormones and chemicals (called myokines) are released in muscle fiber when we exercise. They exert their effect on other organs such as the brain, bone, liver and gut while also having an effect on glucose metabolism, blood lipids, cognition and neurodegenerative di
eases.
We now know there could be over 600 myokines produced naturally in our body from muscle fiber including anti-cancer myokines!
The need for movement has been necessary for human survival for the past 2 million years in a hunter and gatherer lifestyle. Today the need for movement has greatly diminished and our body doesn’t know how to deal with so much inactivity, resulting in disease caused by lack of movement.
The bottom line is this. Find something that brings you joy, walk in nature, dance, ride a bike, do whatever you prefer and keep moving. Activate your own internal pharmacy that’s just waiting to improve your health!
If you want to read the compelling research, you can access it here.
A good example of a long-lived population with movement baked into its lifestyle is the people living in small villages famously named the “Blue Zone” of Sardinia.
If you would like to learn more and immerse yourself in the lifestyle of longevity, I’m hosting an excursion to the Blue Zone of Sardinia this coming September! The trip filled quickly but due to a needed cancellation, there are two spots remaining. You can access all details here.
Whenever you are ready, here are two other ways I can help you.
You may know I’ve been studying and searching for a source of olive oil that’s actually good for you. I’ve been asked probably a hundred times or more, “what brand should I use” but never felt comfortable recommending anything.
Now, after 10 years of traveling, visiting olive groves and learning from growers I have discovered Deliba, a small organic grower of olives with a perfected process for producing extraordinary EVOO (extra virgin olive oil.)
Deliba is part of a new movement taking olive oil production to the highest level possible. But, don’t believe me, their third-party independent lab analysis (included with your EVOO) tells the story. If you are already using it you are getting the healthful benefits of this delicious high polyphenol olive oil. If you aren’t using it, learn more here.
Visit my YouTube channel for more education about olive oil. I’ve condensed 10 years of knowledge in videos.
Deliba members have special insights into the world of olive oil, but I’ll soon receive an exclusive announcement from Deliba about an extraordinary opportunity available to you!
Secondly, we all need inspiration from time to time finding great tasting and nutritious plant-based recipes. I’ve recently met Janelle Hama and was a bit blown away by the creative work she has done with plant-based recipes and the instructional videos she includes with each recipe.
With 20 years of culinary experience, Janelle became fully plant based in 2017 to benefit her own personal health. Her Lebanese background brings a new twist to plant based recipes. She’s been featured in several magazines and publications. You can receive her recipes and cookbook through her Plant Based Folk newsletters here.
Whew!
That’s a lot this month but there’s a lot to talk about. If you find this information helpful forward it to someone who can also use it.
