Confusing Longevity Information
Are you overwhelmed by confusing longevity information? With so many myths, trends, and conflicting advice, it’s hard to know what truly works for living a longer and healthier life. In this article, we’ll clarify the most common misconceptions and provide science-backed tips to help you make informed decisions about your well-being.
I hope this finds you enjoying summer. I love the days of longer sunlight, farmers markets, and the easier life of summer. This is what so many of us wait for!
Even as we would like to enjoy summer and relax a bit, it’s hard not to notice the constant stream of health information coming at us daily and keeping our wheels spinning about how to improve our health or to stay healthy. Let’s simplify it.
Here’s some of what we hear every day
• You read a lot about health and nutrition, but one article contradicts the other.
• The latest “influencer” sounds like he/she knows what they are talking about but there’s nothing to back it up.
• The latest “hack” that’s supposed to bring you to superior health costs thousands of dollars or requires you to spend thousands of dollars or restructure your life.
• Each of the above represents advice that comes and goes quickly and keeps you confused.
Here’s why it doesn’t hold up
It’s generic advice that doesn’t reflect the big picture of what it takes to improve your lifespan and your healthspan.
Here’s the truth
We know the pillars of a long healthful life. We’ve learned from decades of real-life studies with the longest living populations in the “Blue Zone” areas of the world, and decades of scientific studies confirming what we’ve learned.
The major pillars of longevity include:
• A Healthful diet rich in colorful plant-based foods.
• Getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night.
• Building supportive social networks – preferable with live humans and not just on social media.
• Staying active – moving and stay moving, even if you have a 15 minute walk each day.
• Finding your purpose in life and living it.
Instead of listening to generic information that only keeps you overwhelmed, choose one of the pillars above and focus on what you can do to improve. Develop each “pillar” over time and move on to the next.
For example, you may know you are too sedentary, find something you enjoy doing that requires energy and start doing it. If you missed the newsletter on movement with some great information here’s a link where you can still access it.
If you want to focus on improving your diet check out this little eBook on Grilling Vegetables. It’s easier than you might think?
The real message here is to take one “pillar” at a time and work on it. Don’t let yourself become overwhelmed by the latest “thing” and don’t try to do it all at once.
I’m in your corner when it comes to truths, not trends about longevity.
See you next month!
